goa 04/14 D1 – new airport , end of the world mandrem , my place italian vagator

arrived safe a few days after MH370 lost all contact in the indian ocean so any problems would be insignificant really compared to that . the new new airport has just opened in goa we found it really good , contrary to some people who will always have to moan about anything ! we found it is light spacious shiny modern and clean . ok the new toilets are starting to smell badly already but at least they are getting it together . there are guys helping bags off carousels for free . much better than the old terminal . the announcements are sort of Russian sounding languague and random PA bings are frequent , obviously a few odd gremlins to iron out . took a cab to my hotel and had a quick look at anjuna – more new places have sprung up again along anjuna main road since last here in january . and the market stalls are forever expanding on anjuna front . compared to january it is absolutely roasting here now , 39* in the shade , a bit of a heatwave is happening at the moment , humidity is 85% , its very sticky and close and so hot . just standing has you pouring with sweat . a welcome relief is the solid wind coming off the ocean . also compared to december / january time the sea is much much warmer , and the sun sets 1 hr later than Xmas at around 7.15pm . headed off to arambol to get some shopping

this is what it is like on a bike from anjuna – arambol [condition of roads / traffic etc]

then called in at mandrem’s “end of world shack” for the afternoon .

mandrem was really quiet end of season

not seen the black and white kingfishers before but lots fishing here on creek .

after here went back up past the rock garden , got the bike and went towards home stopping at bora bora morjim for drinks and sunset but it clouded over for sunset .

heres a virtual visit – rock garden , kingfishers , bridge , creek , shacks , beach , ocean …..

decided on ‘my place’ in vagator for italian meal , superb home cooked food from an italian guy who has been in goa for 30 odd years . minestrone soup and sugo di alfredo are in the pictures , but there are previous blog entries if you search for more food from ‘my place’ .

after that did a little scout round tour of vagator on our nice new jupiter bike , best one ive ever had anywhere i think , its hardly got any miles at all and everything works brilliant [incl the brakes!!] . love getting a bike the second we land in goa , its essential πŸ˜‰ so good to be back , and no need at all for extra clothing in the evenings on the bike now , at xmas you need a hoody on the bike but this time of the year this heat is relentless day and night . two best things about the bike are the indicators ‘bing’ and the fuel flap pops out above the reg plate which gave petrol attendents hours of fun as nobody had seen one before ha

Dear Tharobster, I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed reading all your blogs. I do visit Goa but unfortunately not to the extent you do. It is like reliving another holiday for me. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to enhance my life. I do not want to sound dramatic but it really does seem that way. THANK YOU. Kindest regards, Karen.
