did another trip out to amsterdam for a 5 day break with mrs robster . primarily to go to the parties at ADE 2013 electronic music event where hundreds of dj’s and bands from across the world throw hundreds of parties and its all crammed into a 5 day marathon in various venues around amsterdam .
arrived in schipol airport at 9.15pm so by the time we left the airport , took the train to central and the tram to our hotel it must have been at least 11pm by the time we got to ‘rembrandt square’ . the ‘escape club’ is the main place there . we got some quick fast food in the next steet , visited the ADE stand in the square and then hit the ‘3 sisters pub’ as it was cheaper drinks . we figured out where the club night was on at , then walked along to ‘leidseplein square’ which is several mins away from ‘rembrandt’ and got to ‘RAUW 10’ event at ‘Melkweg club’ . 2 MANY DJ’s / SOULWAX , AEROPLANE , ALEX METRIC and RITON amongst others where on .
got in on the guest list and we hung out in the smaller room for a bit
then went to the main room where 2 many dj’s blew the place apart , amazing night with a set full of classic tracks from jaydee, to hamilton bohannon , house nation to french kiss , frankie goes to hollywood to acid house rave classics . just an amazing set so well put together , it was seamless . its easy to hear why 2 many dj’s / soulwax are amongst the worlds top djs . belgiums finest … probably ! closed at 5 pm and the crowd where wild , really going for it . it had 2 rooms , and the main one had this incredible sound system in it . i think it was a ‘void’ system . 2MDJs used 4 pioneer CDJ all night .
took the long walk home to south amsterdam central just outside the canals , past record mania , back to our hotel thru the late night streets of amsterdam . perfect night .
next day did a few sights including the local ‘albert cuyp street market’ which is great
then hit the ‘taco shop’ when heading out for the evening . this place is great for tex mex . its run by an american guy and i couldnt even finish my burrito it was so big . they had a super burrito on the menu too , god only knows how big that is ! the two beef and veggie bean burritos came with salad salsa and trimmings . highly recommended and they do a delivery service too . we love mexican and this was a great find . we thought it was better than los pilones we went to last time we visited ‘the dam’ . burrito where about 6E plus 2.50E for salads and cheese n salsa toppings . we love mexican !!!
it after a big night last night we decided to do bars tonight , so headed up past the lotus dealer ,
jumped a few stops on the tram ,
and went to dam square . theres a small fair , few rides , lots of side stalls and noise ,
and then got loaded full of booze in ‘the smallest bar in amsterdam’ apparently [where we couldnt escape posters and football scarves from our home city],
done come coffee shops as you do ,
eat lots of pasta pizza and sweet things , then headed into the RLD [red light district] to see ‘the sights’ !
checked our breathe along the way , “red frown smiley” meant we where doing well !
took the walk home to straighten back up lol , passing club crystal which looked interesting !
next day we got straight to the pub for the match at 1.45 local time kick off . 2-2 was the final score . did some shopping , then headed into ‘rembrandt square’ again . revisited the 3 sisters pub and some coffee shops then went to ‘air nightclub’ where ‘we love’ where hosting an event .
got in on the guest list again , headline was TODD TERRY but we where going for GREG WILSON .
its a large club , various levels and rooms and you put everything on a reloadable credit card or ‘air card’ as its called . simple . drink prices where not too bad considering . the main room had a system with such low freq bass , its really moved big air lol . nice . the walls where LED patterned all the way aoround with various additional screens in room 1 .
the whole VIP culture hasnt ruined amsterdam clubs by the looks of it , all the balconys are open to the public and the dancefloor was still a dancefloor not a vip booth space . brilliant , the way it should be . places in the uk along with vegas , ibiza etc have lost the plot in the name of profit and its killing proper club culture . anyway greg came on in room 2 and rocked it !
after all the walking for days and clubbing all night it was gruelling on the legs so we grabbed a rickshaw for part of the journey home at 4.30am , was a right laugh pissed ! jumped off near the heineken building , past the old gramophone shop , and back to our hotel . another awesome night out in amsterdam !
next day it was a late breakfast , then ventured into amsterdam where it was chaos as the marathon was taking place . lots of trams routes where off so it was more walking .
even trying to cross the marathon route was a itself a battle , one bridge looked like it would collapse i cant imagine it was designed for that many people . talk about badly organised , it was a 20 minute que for the bridge to cross and once up there nobody wanted to leave the ‘view point’ , tho you saw nothing more than you could 20ft below on the road ? bizarre . #gridlock
more coffee shops , more boozing , more walking … more more more lolz . did some canals , bridges , buildings ,
shopping is great too in amsterdam . one area had awesome shops just off dam square . you can buy anything from cool trainers , flowers , ajax fc , to magic mushrooms !
the ‘condomerie shop’ was a source of many peoples pictures , every shape style colour flavour and size could be had !!!!
coffee shops and sweet things at every corner .
and the RLD again had some great sights , this looked like an 80’s soft cell LP sleeve .
fancied some chinese tonight so hit one of the wok shops you see everywhere . this was called http://www.woktowalk.com and literally they couldnt wok it quick enough to meet demand . packed out , fresh lovely noodle and rice dishes . cost was about 6E i think , not much . youd pay 15-20E in a local restaurant for a main like this . no wonder it was packed out .
we had a great spot on a bridge in the RLD that we sank a few beers at and watched the passing ‘traffic’ . opposite was the moulin rouge club , taking its name from the original parisian club we visited a few months back .
things became a blur , it was a one coffee shop one canal and one bar after another . weed and sex are everywhere and this kinda sums it up haha
after all the chaos and gay cinema shops lol
later that night we stumbled across this amazing burger place ‘zaken burger’ , hand made awesome beef burgers . wish id found this earlier would have loved to try another one . delicious ! only one minus point they didnt do a veggie pate burger for the mrs , but mine was incredible !
next day it was breakfast , bit more booze , then plane home . 5 days of partying in amsterdam , cant go wrong ! one of my fav cities for sure , its like vegas mentality = just go and have fun , whatever your thing is youll find it here 😉
we didnt even get a chance to make it to mark knights thing where we where on the guest list too
or danny tenaglia
amsterdam / ade – well worth going to !
