goa trip – day 36 – chapora fort sunset , anjuna market , 6am goa trance raves !

had a good troop round the local area today , a bit going on everywhere – this holiday has been made by the scooter , i consider it essential and love driving them when i go travelling ! 250 during january is going rate i paid . its fairly decent . some dodgy ones where 200 but they had no mirrors and tyres where crap . nah !

so started the day off on anjuna beach , and spent all day there in the sun watching the sellers come along. when market day is here on wednesdays you get quite a few extra sellers in anjuna near the market , some good , some boring ‘soap/ear wax/cleaning’ .

left my towel on the beach and took a trip to the anjuna day market half way thru the day and stocked up on loads of fresh spices . its handy being located on the beach if you are at the market you can keep going fora dip in the sea all day its like the best market location ever ! stocked up on stuff incl poppy seeds , onion seeds , lime leaves , kala nimak , lemon grass , nutmegs , paprika , chillis , mango powder , black pepper , and lots more i cant remember off the top of my head . that and some 135rps honeybee brandy will go nice with the 1.5kl of fresh honey in my case hahaha . see earlier blog on anjuna market with video etc .

chapora fort was amazing the other nite [see prev blog for full report] so about 5pm i went back and did another sunset and took a few more pics . absolutely the best views on goas coast . if anyone knows better please say cos ill have to visit πŸ˜‰

after that i heard 9 bar was open so went for a couple of hours . was early so not busy yet , but the music was already boomin .

was hungry so for food so went to guru bar on anjuna front for a meal – tandoori chicken was lovely . they quite often have live music on here , but tonite i sat and watched a bob marley docuentary on a big wall projector , just got sucked in !

lots of drinks later it was nearing 12 midnight and closing time . so headed to 9 bar but it was closed , however saw tons of bikes on vagator hill . something was happening ! our shack is there so it must be happening on ozran beach i guessed . bounced down and sure enough it was booming . not as busy as i thought from amount of bikes , but still decent .

during the night one of the bar guys said ‘are you going to the party’ ? then he explained our shack where throwing a big rave on the cliffs , just 10m round the rocky headland . walked round and couldnt believe it a full on trance rave . stayed there till stupid oclock and ended up really smashed too ! ive been ehre 15 times ,maybe 20 , and never seen them do one of these . this is the dj box up on the cliffs behind the lumo / fluro dressing

great location ! the cliff face was all decked out with big dj platform , and dance areas had been made . there was a bar at one end and a massive sound system installed on the headland pointing out to sea so the noise didnt disturb anyone . genius – party all nite πŸ˜‰ music was heavy minimal goa trance , where in the our shack club earlier it had been tech house and better for me personally . but the party was pretty busy with people , this is where everyone was from the bikes up on vagator hill . it was certainly sketchy in parts the journey home , cant remember bits while other parts where hilarious . yeh , definitely smashed . listen to how heavy it got musicwise OMG , too heavy for me that – but when in goa lol

follow up Q’s :
==============

I hadn’t heard about it when I was researching places to go and it looks quite cool. How far is it from santana resort or candolim in general? Is it quite well known to taxi drivers or is it close to another landmark? Lastly is it worth going in your opinion? Many thanks! Mez-P

ANSWER : its all about THOSE VIEWS . [feathered] birds are ok too i guess . other answers you wanted : its about 20 mins from candolim , easy on bike or cab . its very well known to everyone – its a major landmark . theres the gravel hill on entry . maybe the optional hill into the sea . not hard unless walking a problem , but good footwear helps . to make a day of it tie it in with anjuna market 5 mins away – maybe weds day market and beach , late afternoon go up chapora 4-6 ish ? tharobster.wordpress.com is where youll find some pics vids . cheers rob

Thanks tharobster, funnily enough I just commented on your thread. I understand there isn’t much to do there so the sole purpose would be to see the sunset. Thanks for the suggestion to tie it in with the market. Good idea! If we decided not to go to the fort though, in your experience where is the second best place to relax and watch the sunset? πŸ™‚ Many thanks! Mez-P

ANSWER : teso siolim is nice. thats 5 mins from market just by the fort too . market-fort-teso could be an option too if you like drinks after ! i like it cos its a posh modern place and the sun sets in mouth of river . its in my blog on a few diff days. note drinks are 500 cocktails and 100 beers its not a cheap shack . they also have nice food and places to stay πŸ˜‰ or from a paraglider on arambol beach ! any beach in goa is pretty good also . im sure some of the regulars know maybe good sunset places but im not sure anything would give you the elevation of the fort . cheers rob

I know you didn’t take a taxi but is the chapora fort area accessible via taxi? Just trying to get an idea for the location and whether it’s worth travelling from candolim (no idea of how long it would take). We only have 3 days in Goa. Plus it seems quite secluded and out of the way which I understand is it’s appeal but we’re a couple of young ladies so would you say it’s safe? Would love to experience the sunset views for ourselves πŸ™‚ Many thanks! Mez-P

ANSWER : hi glad you like. ive put a few answers then on your other post , but to answer these yes so far up hill then taxi and people park , but then its the scamble up the hill . not on all fours , but its gravelly . no wheelchair or disabled . you cant drive to the door. castle isnt like a welsh one or anything its rubble , youll go for the views like in blog pics . 20 min cab from candolim , if there weds do it with day market in anjuna . its only 5 mins from anjuna or 15 or so from baga . id say it was safe for sure . there are usually about 20-40 or so tourists milling about too . i didnt get unsafe vibes anywhere in goa , but you can get bag snatchers in candolim so worth reading that thread on TA . a torch might be of use perhaps as sun sets it might be dark walkng back down the hill to taxi [takes 5mins down 10mins up] . and remember from gate which approx direction that you came up as it will look different when sun sets and you return down the hill !
