goa trip – day 8

had a few hours swimming and frisbeeing in the pool [had the whole place to ourselves virtually all day at fern gardenia hotel]

then went to palolem beach later on about 5pm . went to the far end and got a flyer on the way for ‘silent noise’ silent disco tomorrow night . 9pm-4am with 3 channels in the included headphones and 600rps admission. look forward to that. watched a perfect cloudless sunset and had sunset snacks at the place on the rocks end of beach . again , place to ourselves . we did worry of it being empty yet being such a good sit off place , but falafels where great and got 2 mugs of tea cos where so thirsty and only just over last nights hangover. heavy one . anyway you go up a makeshift long ramp to the restaurant and being elevated you have the whole bay and sunset to see from the top of a rock . 15rps tea , and falafels 100rps i think … with humous naan and salad . silly prices !!!

did evening meal at ‘art’ on the beach in palolem . great food and service , felt really clean after nasty casa fester [sorry fiesta] yesterday . got veggie xacuti and chicken tandoori. and these ace buttery jacket potatos from the tandoor mmmmmm really good spuds these where . you dine on solid quality tables and chairs on the sand . a definite winner is ‘art’ [nearly far south of beach]. live music on saturdays there – and drinks looked as if they would be good too , but a nite off cos we been drinking every day for a week so needed to dry out lol .

palolem beach is nice , really calm waters in the enclosed bay . lots of khiaks for hire with it being a calm bay . usual tattoo bar and shack vibe . not busy , mixture of people domestic , eu , and traveller types . lots of dogs , only a few cows . sun drops nicely in view from beach . people playing cricket , football , general good vibe . no motorised watersports that i saw .

theres a pay car park at the end on main beach rd in [short stretch of rd] . at the other end of palolem we saw a good little place that was something different … on the rd near german bakery , right on a bend adjacent to beach – dont know name but it was virtually a small cinema aka bar playing new movies on a monster clear projector screen [ie tonight was ‘expendables2’ new one , and cpl more] . new films , loud nice sound , in the outside bar – looked great !

picked a great hotel in palolem . if anyone is thinking of palolem ‘fern gardenia resort’ is really clean and 10 mins walk or free shutle till 6pm to beach . great great pool with a sunken bar [tho bar isnt open maybe cos its not too busy] , lcd tv and cable with espn etc , fast wifi , safe , gated and uniformed security patrols, quiet a/c , cctv on every door , decent daytime restaurant snacks , best hot breakfasts weve had [fresh made omlettes/indian/cereals/various juices/teas coffees – all free] , multijet shower , ‘times’ paper at your door each morning . really lush gardens with koi ponds . and place feels new and so well maintained . wooden cabins , glazed , no mozzies in room nice and tight seals … how about a jump into the clean large freeform pool ?

met a brit couple today , second since we have been here . he had been here 3 weeks and had no rain . both agreed goa is excellent and as enjoyable as thailand . gonna get a bike and get out tomorrow .. poss agonda?  heres a quick video clip of palolem at about 5.30 pm
